Bill,
If I unlatch the hitch, then swing the tensioners "up" to apply pressure to
the spring bars, it'll lift the hitch right off the ball.
Based on that, I'd disagree with the "more strain on the ball" (with
equalizer bars), but would agree with Roy's "more stain on the hitch".
However, that strain will be in a much different area on the hitch.
