Low voltage is hard on an AC motor because the AC makes the motor need
to turn at the same speed which means it has to put out the same
mechanical torque, but with the voltage low it has to draw extra current
to produce the horsepower.

Maker sure that 50' extension cord is 12 or maybe 14 gauge, but
preferable 12 or larger. Not 16 gauge, the voltage drop will be
unreasonable.
