[A/S] Future of the WBCCI
Although I am in no way an expert, one of the things I think may be keeping folks
from joining, is the ability to partake in the reindeer games!
I work many hours during the week, and can sometimes get away "early" on a Thursday..or
get back on Tuesday, but for the most part, my leisure time is the weekend.
More than once I've yearned to go on a caravan, these really sound like fun,
but they are very long. Now I don't remember exactly, but these caravans are
never 3-5 days! I think I've seen them up to 30 days or more, which is fine
for a retiree, but not for the working family.
I am a very social person, and I usually join any organization that supports
an interst of mine. I have been wanting to join a rally, but my rig just wasn't
ready.(It still isn't 100%, but I always had some excuse)
I think Wayne Moore make good points about change also, but I have not experienced
the "pomp & circumstance," and the strict traditional ways of the WBCCI, but
I understand what he is saying.
I have looked in the WBCCI Manual, and have seen for myself, how many have attended
the "Internationals," in past years. There has been some significant changes
in attendance numbers.
I think younger folks are less social. That's all! Maybe something like this
new Bambi will attract them! I don't think it's high prices scaring people away,
just look at all those expensive cars, SUV's, vacations, and hobbies!
I see the same thing at bluegrass festivals, which is a similar type of social
group...as in folks that get together with the same people, at the same festivals,
year after year! We ask ourselves the same thing.
I am looking forward to this weekend's festivities at the WDCU/VAC Northeast
Gathering, at Harpers Ferry, W. VA! This will be my first WBCCI event, and I'm
sure not my last.
So..all you veterans...be on your best behavior! <g>
