The original compression rings and fittings are a high compression
fitting. As you have discovered spiral clamps can't be tightened down
enough. It is our practice when doing these sorts of repairs to use what
are called Flair-it fittings. They are a hand tightened 100 psi rated
fitting. A number of RV manufacturers are starting to use them as well.
They are easier to use it tight spots. Check your local RV and/or
plumbing sources.
