Re: [A/S] Another A/S dealer drops out

Just to throw in another perspective:
$26-27,000 for a new Bambi IS pretty steep. On the other hand if you compare
it to a new car
(I think the VW bug is about the same price) it doesn't seem so bad. The car
has an engine but doesn't have a bed, bath, refer, stove etc. Also, cars
sell in high volume which can make a difference in price versus mfg cost per
unit (for one thing the design/technical costs are spread over large
numbers). The original owner of our Bambi, who had traded in for a larger
model, had taken the 'hit' on the new price - but then so does the owner of
any new vehicle you drive off the lot.

When we bought our yr-old Bambi we had only looked at a few other trailers.
One (Salem brand, I think) had pretty much the same layout as Bambi but boy
was it shoddy seeming. It was about $17,000. At an RV sales show we had
looked at a new fold-out tent-bed trailer which was about $16,000 I think it
had a potty closet and maybe an icebox but not much else. I can imagine that
in ten years we might be able to sell the A/S for $10,000 (or at least a few
thousand) and would be lucky to get $500 for the others.

Sooo, even though the people may gasp and walk away they may be back if
they're seriously looking to buy a NEW trailer. BTW, I didn't expect to buy
an A/S - I had told Tom that we couldn't afford one if they were still making
them and probably couldn't find an old one to buy.
