Nick, if it was me writing that paragraph, I'd replace the word "still" with the word "always."
<grin> Although our eight month trip has gone well since leaving Upstate New York in September,
there have been one or two snags (inconveniences). But, isn't that why we bring our tool boxes, our
spare parts and a laundry bag of socks filled with greenbacks? It would be anti-climatic if the
journey went without a glitch. An Airstream ALWAYS needs its owner. 
 
Would you like an update on the broken door handle I mentioned last week? Of course you would.
Yesterday, I stumbled onto a mongrel door handle for sale that was covered with a layer of dust. It
had been on that shelf, in that store, for years. With the help of a 3/8" bit and our 14.4 volt
Makita drill, the hole in the door handle now slips tightly over the lock stem. With another smaller
hole drilled crosswise for a 1" bolt through the handle and stem, the handle is securely attached to
the stem. I even added a nut (plus locktite) for good measure. I would not be surprised if this door
handle outlasts this '77 31' Excella 500. Now, if I can only remember to close the door gently (not
slam it), maybe the lock won't break. 

By the way, that plexiglass I installed on the screen door (over the screens) is working out great.
We open the main door for warmth and sunlight on cool mornings and the plexiglass keeps the cool air
outside. It's just a small thing, but feeling the warm sun on us as it streams in the doorway goes
well with cowboy coffee.
