I never had any trouble with bandits but with thieves and road 
warriors, guys (usually 3) who would set you up for a collision and 
try to extort money. The best way to avoid the road warriors is to 
buy Mexican Auto Insurance, it is cheap and they give you a sticker 
for the windshield which wards off the warriors. As far as the 
thieves go, just give a kid $2 to watch the car with a promise of $2 
more when you return.
