 Like Sandy, I wouldn't dream of buying one of those new Chevys until
they've been out for a couple or 3 years. In the meantime, you can buy a
Dodge/Cummins and be assured that you're getting a pretty good, proven
outfit. There's really no question on the engine, as it's used in many
applications besides the Dodge truck, including marine, where it's rated
as high as 325 HP or thereabouts. (it's around 200 in the Dodge)

As important as the engine is the rest of the outfit. The Dodge 4-speed
automatic is supposed to be a pretty good tranny, and the later 5 and 6
speeds are also supposed to be OK. The early (pre '94) 5 speed trannys
are junk, stay very far away from them.

As Hunter said, you do get used to the Diesel racket. If you're a wannbe
trucker, you'll actually learn to love it. <<grin>>
