Jerry,
 The other problem with manual transmissions in towing is that the
manufacturers often don't have a low-enough 'Low' gear. An auto trans
has a torque converter that gives more grunt when starting a load.

The Dodge w/Cummins is rated to tow MORE with a manual than an auto.
