Toby, this is not a catalytic heater, but a forced air furnace. Give it a try if you want, but personally I would leave it to a professional, only because it could give off large amounts of CO, which is deadly. My old furnace had several small problems but it worked. Its main problem was that it gave off CO. The correct parts were not available to fix it, so out it went. I sleep much better at night! Scott
