John, Your pickup can safely and reliably tow whatever the Ford towing guide sayes you can. If the rear end ratio is the 3.55 then you are out of luck unless you are trying to tow a Bubble or Cruisette. A Bambi may even be out of the question. As you have finding out, not all full sized vehicles can tow. In your case the limiting factor is the transmission, not the rear end ratio. It is very unfortunate that Ford is using such a wimpy transmission, it does not have to be this way. Scott
