Re: [A/S] Brake
Hydraulic brakes, great reliable heavy-duty, but 1950's technology,
Great until the plug on your tow vehicle falls off the bumper one day in
the mountains and drags on the pavement until it wears off, thereby
dumping all your brake fluid overboard. Yep you guessed it - personal
experience. I sucked the foam right out of that '62 Chevy Pickup seat
cushion.....thank God for emergency brakes and guardrails.
Back to the Bubble. Standard practice seems to drain and cap the lines
back at the axles (leave the cylinder for a conversation piece at
rallies), then the wheel backing plates are replaced with ones with
electrical actuators built in. A brake control wire then is ran back to
the new plates. If the VAC list was up, there are some guys on there
who have done it recently. Check Tom Patterson's List archives for some
more history.
