Jim,
I tend to be very conservative when it comes to AC power, even when I'm on 
the grid.  I agree with Hunter about cooking with gas, but I do have a 
small 600 watt microwave.  TV and computer are the only "AC musts".  Oh 
yes.  I also bought a vintage Waring blender and am hooked on smoothies.

The appeal of a central inverter is that one doesn't have to move plugs 
around all the time to use the appliance.  The problem might be to 
unwittingly use too much power and override the inverter and run down the 
batts.

I have to make my Dometic work on LP gas before setting up the solar 
system.  I am also interested in LP gas stand alone freezer.  Both these 
appliances would dramatically reduce AC consumption.
