Another thought--
I wonder if the people you bought it from actually owned it. If the
police in Quebec search CPIC which is the Canadian Police Information
Computer, to see if it is stolen, I wonder if it would have been listed.
Do you know the serial number? That is vital as both the police and the
Insurance Crime Prevention Bureau file serial numbers of all vehicles
reported stolen to them. It may be on one of those data bases if it was
stolen previously.
Seems very strange that the people you bought it from didn't have an
ownership as I'd be very surprised if the Belle Province didn't have the
same regulations regarding registering your trailer, that Ontario does.
