Everybody -

This is true.  Hunter, you now know someone who does this religiously. 
The reason is that when the engine is off oil is no longer pumped to
the turbine which is still spinning and very, very hot.  What can
happen is that the oil will break down into teeny weeny oil carbon
particles which then become abrasive.  You do not want abrasives in the
bearings of you turbine.  I have an exhaust gas temp gauge mounted just
before the turbo.  I let the engine cool to 300 - 350F.  I may be a
fuss over this but it gives me great piece of mind. My brother-in-law
who drives long haul diesel says it is necessary after pulling a load
or driving at highway speeds but not for around town.  Nevertheless, I
always let the engine exhaust cool.
