Re: [a/s] Fear This
Here in AZ the speed limit for cars and trucks alike is 75 mph. In adjacent CA
it is 70 for cars, but only 55 for trucks (and vehicles towing trailers,
Airstream or otherwise). On I-5 between L.A. and Sacramento, I have been passed
(at night and in fog) by semis doing at least 90 mph. I've heard (via CB)
truckers bragging about hitting 105 mph on the Phoenix to L.A. run. Outside of
California most of them seem to be (almost) law abiding.
It could reasonably be argued that the two-tier speed limit system (Texas is
another prime offender) is actually unsafe and it would be better to have all
traffic moving at about the same speed. I haven't seen many semis obeying the
55 mph limit in California, at least outside of the urban areas.
