Tom,
 The main failures have been in the South, in hotter climates. Some of
it is due to Ford's recommendation for 26PSI; Firestone prefers 30PSI.
We all know that lower pressures = more heat. If you inflate your tires
to 30 PSI and live in a not-so-hot area, even those tires will probably
hold together until the replacements arrive.
