It is my belief/understanding that the segmented end pieces (both 
exterior and interior) of past and current A/S's are structually free 
standing and the nature of the curve and  their riveting together 
provides all the strength they need.  Although I wonder a bit about the  
rear dutchmans cap/whale tail center end panel and if there is  any 
vertical bracing. Doubt it but seems logical.   The horizontal bracing on 
mine at the ends went only about window height at top but the sides I 
have four levels of horizontal bracing.  Three to top of windows and the 
forth about a foot down from  each side of vent on exterior  and on the 
inside about 5 inches on each side of vent. Even though this horizontal 
line of rivets runs from front to rear end caps the braces do no connect 
to any of the vertical structual members, at least on the ones I had open 
in the center interior.
