Using a very sharp knife and preferably
a steel straight edge, cut the carpet all the
way back to the cabinets, furniture, etc. so
that none of it shows other than the cut edge.  There are places where
you can cut back under an item ( e.g., kitchen sink/cabinet.  Install
the hardwood flooring as instructed, and when through run a strip of
quarter-round or shoe-moulding
around the perimeter.  Stain the moulding
to match the flooring.

We have used hardwood parquet in two
trailers and random length oak flooring on
another.  It takes time and sharp tools but
you'll have a "thing of beauty" -- and I
personally prefer not to use throw rugs
other than at the entrance (but at the beach, Bob, sand can be a
problem).  The
hardwood flooring has an almost life-time
polyurethane finish and should be kept
"waxed" using the product recommended
by the manufacturer.  Use top grade flooring:  my preference is
Hartman/Bruce
