Echoing Sandys' reply....90% of AC problems do not involve the 
compressor but all the goodies that make it run.  Check power to the 
unit and from the (1) thermostat switch (is there power from the switch 
to the (2) capacitor)  and from there to the compressor.   Since the fan 
runs you're halfway home.
