[a/s] Elegant Airstreams (new & vintage)
What a marvelous list we have. In the past month I have seen everything
from flaming vintages for endless (sometimes mindless details) to cursing
new units that dump their tanks.
Most of us believe that, whether new or vintage there is something about an
Airstream that makes it a cut above fiberglass or tin RV's. Aluminum by its
nature can last several lifetimes without rust making the Airstreams elegant
by nature. And whether we own a new coach or an old vintage beater there
are definitely design details that could use improving. I would love to
discuss such details in this thread.
My 1966 Safari has four rectangular shaped light covers for the overhead
fixtures. Two of them are burnt to a useless state. The remaining two are
discolored and warped in shape. I know that I could redesign these fixtures
to conform to the 66 modern style while providing better ventilation. They
would fit on the same mount and allow the four way bright 12volt lights. I
am not interested in coverting to fluorescent fixtures. I don't like the
quality of the light. So there's one design correction that could make my
Airstream more "elegant". If there is interest in such improvement I will
publish the plans for the light or make additional copies for sale.
Happy Sunday!
