RE: [a/s] 1970s Airstreams

*We are all assuming that all Airstreams that came off the assembly line
*way
*back when* were perfect. I can't help but wonder if there weren't at least
*minor problems back then, too.

I was pondering this exact thought on the way home today!

We (my parents, actually) bought a new 1972 way back when. I remember
problems that had to be fixed. The first time out with the trailer we hit a
rain storm and had 1" of water in a vista view window. I thought it looked
like a fishbowl. My dad was definitely not amused! A/C, fridge,
tires/alignment are other things I remember.

I think there were certain things that were prone to cause problems early
on--like the vista views. But overall, the quality of the unit was very
good.

I now own another '72, but I'm amazed at the longevity of the trailer
overall. Sure, there's wear and tear. The water heater was replaced, but the
original A/C and fridge are working. Some tambour doors went south, but the
rest of the interior is holding up great.

Compared to most consumer durable goods in general, and other trailer brands
in particular, these Airstreams are incredibly robust!
