RE: [a/s] walkie talkies
The CBs may have more utility in that you can use them to communicate with
fellow travelers (truckers, etc) while on the road. The FRS handhelds are
generally more compact and are good when you're out and about hiking or
shopping, etc. I find them useful for keeping track of the kids in the
campground (they would be great at Disneyworld!) or when I'm working on the
camper and I want to talk 'to the house'. The prices are comparable, ranges
are identical. As previously discussed, Nextel Digital Cel with the two-way
'radio' feature is perhaps most useful but more expensive.
Amateur radio enthusiasts (HAMs) will weigh in at this point...
