RE: [a/s] Towing Question Can-Am
I don't know this from personal experience, Phil. I am simply trusting the
engineers that design and build them, and assuming they know what they are
talking about. If those engineers thought it would work out in practice,
they would allow their sales people to hawk them to us in the _Blue_Beret_.
Cadillac rates (or did in recent years) one of their models to tow a 5000
pound trailer. That is/was the highest rating of any passenger car that I
am aware of.
To have a meaningful dialog on this, we need to discuss actual products
which one can buy, not a special vehicle that bears no relationship to a
stock vehicle. Dodge tricked up a cummins diesel engine and drive train in
one of their trucks a couple years ago and set some records with it (up
around 150 MPH, I think) but they were the first to admit this was not your
stock Dodge truck
People who think that an ordinary consumer out in the field can far exceed
the engineer's design limits on a stock automobile and get away with it day
after day are simply wrong. Are you seriously suggesting otherwise?
