I agree.  Towing is WORK and clean oil + filter is cheap insurance.  But the
higher cost of the filter and many quarts of oil is a feature that is often
ignored by the diesel engine salespersons.
I change oil and filter @ 3000 miles when towing with my 2000 Ford F-250
V-10 gas engine, but I don't need as many quarts of oil and a good filter is
about $7-$10.  BTW, be aware that filters differ widely in quality and
construction.  Some of the "cheapies" may be too lightweight for this
service.  Ask the salesperson and be prepared to pay a bit more than bottom
dollar.
