Re: [a/s] RAM 3500 gear ratios

First of all, I wonder if you really need the 3500. It will ride much
harsher empty than the 2500, but does have a higher loaded payload capacity.
If you don't nedd the capacity, why not go for the 2500?
Second, the 6 speed manual trans is new and reportedly give more flexibility
in matching engine speed (read torque) to the road conditions. A lot
depends on where you want to travel. If you spend a lot of time in
mountains/hills etc. the 4.10 is a good choice. But if cruising the
interstate is your main mile eater, then you can select the 3.54 and gear
down on your 6 speed when you come to the big hills.
Thirdly, with the Hensley hitch, I doubt that you need the dual rear wheels
for stability. They are a pain to manage solo (parking lots, garages, etc.)
and tires cost $$, too. Many 34' a/s are pulled safely and successfully
with single rear wheels and 2500 (3/4 Ton) units.
Good luck to you whatever you select.
