Re: [a/s] Caution against Silicone was re: Sticky door



I wonder whether we may not be confusing different things here?  There are
silicone *sealants* and there are silicone *lubricants*.  The sealants release
acetic acid while curing and I'm sure that's not good for aluminum.  The
lubricants do not (so far as I know anyway) contain any acid.

I remember Jim Weston warning of the dangers of silicone on aluminum.  Is there
anyone on the list who can expound on the chemistry, and/or clarify whether the
problems relate to sealants, lubricants or both?
