All good points, all hitches aside, however: 

Don't forget, keeping safe distance between you, your
trailer, and others on the road. Having an adequate
equally weighted tow vehicle for your trailer, and
good brakes: trailer and tow vehicle. Driving the
right speed for conditions. Staying off the road in
"bad" conditions. Using a adequate safety chain, and
making sure your break-a-way trailer "brake switch"
works! Just to name a few! If Airstreams really are
less involved in accidents, it is because their owners
usually have a more valued investment, and are in-turn
more cautious than the typical weekender that rushes
out to that spot, and rushes back to the city in the
worst of traffic conditions, (Sunday nights in L.A.
for instance)!
I know being retired, we can travel in the best of
conditions, no schedule to keep, no where to go in a
hurry! I feel very fortunate, can really enjoy the
experience to the fullest!
