Fwd: Re: [a/s] Hitches/bent sway control ball bracket

When I bought my 10,000 pound trailer the Airstream
dealer told me right off to use two sway controls. I
purchased a left and a right Eaze Lift Sway control
bar. I was told to keep them tight, but always take
them off or loosen them if you back up. (Rather
inconvenient)! I was in a "dither" one time trying to
jockey my 34 footer into a spot, and in my "dither" I
forgot to loosen them. Guess what, it bent the one
side, just like what you described. One of the
brackets on the truck hitch assembly that holds one
of the little sway control balls, bent up a little. I
learned right there that the truck and trailer put
tremendous stress on those bars when backing. Could it
be you backed up a little and don't remember?? I know
that will do it! It only takes backing up about 4 feet
to bend one. Mine still works fine, just a little bent
now. And yes, they do creak when going slow on
corners, and people do stare...I try to loosen them
when I am in town and out of the horrible Arizona
freeway winds. If they are not tight out on the
highway, I have found they don't do their job.
