Re: [a/s] Concerned Airstreamer Speaks Out/another view

Excellent letter Hunter.

I have resisted putting in my "two cents worth"
as I felt maybe "I" was one of the ones whom isn't
wanted on this list. For two days, I have debated
whether to "unscribe", as I thought perhaps I was one
of those, that were being "instantly deleted" and
annoying people! I am sure that others are feeling
this way too. I really enjoyed getting involved with
this list, and sharing what I have gone through with
my "monocular" style trailer, a Silver Streak. I know
there are those that think this is an "Airstream" ONLY
owner's list, to my understanding, it is not. I admit
I may be a little long winded, in my enthusiasm to
help others enjoy, repair, and I like to give ideas
and accurate updating cost estimates. However, for
example: no one said to my knowledge, that they have a
$10,000., solar system, as the original letter
suggested, how silly, (how would this possibly fit on
a trailer)! I said "I" had a 5 thousand system. I took
the trouble and time to explain the system, and looked
up the costs, as I thought "some" may be interested.
(I was also answering a person whom asked me the
details), perhaps I was wrong. I never said anyone had
to "have" this kind of system or any other. I have no
doubt that you can go solar for less! However, it is
an investment, and the pay off is over long-term. I
was merely, proudly, telling about "my" system and
letting people know what can be "done". I thought this
was what this forum was all about. On the road, you
will meet all kinds of people, some will have simple
rigs, other have fancy, I love them all. I wouldn't
think the intent of this forum is to "homogenize" and
"screen" all the postings, to fit the criteria of a
few. Some people like to do things for pennies, and
shop at the salvage yards. So what! More power to
them. Some people like to buy the latest set-up, why
should they feel guilty and not wanted here. I peruse
every posting, I enjoy hearing what other RVer's have
to say, I don't delete anyone up-front. I actually am
very upset by what I have been reading, an attempt at
censorship in a forum that should welcome and accept
all views and opinions, even if it doesn't reflect the
views of all.
I am certainly going to try in the future to be very
careful what I say here and keep it short, I may even
"unscribe". I want to be a part of a forum that caters
to our "kind" of trailers, where there is no
pettiness, where people are honest, considerate and
kind. I hope that others will not feel they should
leave, as well.
The bottom line is, it IS expensive to fix,
repair, and maintain and even pull an RV these days.
You don't have to be "rich", but you do have to be
creative! It is expensive to stay in parks as well,
but if all RVer's come together they can find a way to
continue to enjoy this lifestyle! I am not going to
"lie" and tell someone that it cost me 1 grand, when a
cost was actually 5 grand. (By the way, I just looked
up solar panels in the Camping World catalog,
comparable ones to mine, are about $1000.00 a piece).
And as well, I don't have a 40,000 truck, (many don't)
but bought a used 1 ton with low miles for 8 thousand.
However, I admire every new "fancy" truck I see! My
trailer isn't better than anyone elses, but I am very
proud of it, as all of you are no doubt, proud of your
trailers!
