I ahd to bump Rich becaus I got over 100 letters from his server (???) That 
was a new one... he wrote this in response to Joe.  I am reinstating Rich and 
ccing him, so he will read the replies.

 I had a 31' Excella 500 and we towed it 8,000+ miles on a trip out to the
 southwest with a new (at the time)'98 Chev Suburban with a 454 cu." V8 and
 4:10 gears.  We also had a HD Reese system.
 
 This package towed beautifully and I was extremely happy with the
 performance on the hills both with braking and with the power.  Some of the
 hills we hit in Colorado were something.  Going up was a big deal...14,000'
 Wolf's Creek Pass.  We slowed way down to about 30-40 in 2nd.(?)  The
 various other LONG hills were a workout too, but the long ride down was in
 my opinion more of a chore with regard to braking.  I was very happy that I
 had big brakes on a big HD 7,000lb. (+/-) tow vehicle.
 
 We got about 9.5-12mpg on that trip. (Depending on the desert or hilly
 terrain).
 
 I would like to know more about your towing capabilities:
 
 What areas of the country do you tend to camp in?
 What affect do HD hills have on your towing speed?
 Do you ever over heat?
 How big are the brakes in that tow vehicle?  Replace them often?
 How many pounds is the tow vehicle rated to pull?
 
 Joe, I want to assure you that I am not interested for any other reason than
 to compare notes with my experiences on the road.
