If you would apply a thin coat of Silicone to the outside edge and both
faces of the sea. Allowing both to dry before proceeding to the next
surface. This would in effect produce the O ring effect, and perhaps
solve your problem.  A slight amount on the underside of the screw head
may also be necessary just for an added measure of insurance.
