Dear Pete,

I really enjoy your ideas and the ways you have of expressing them.  And
that's even though you are what has been termed in philosophical discussions
a "logical positive empiricist."  However, qualitative analysis is part of
legitimate scientific investigation today.  This includes anecdotal
information -- people sharing their stories.  The "white knuckle syndrome"
and its alleviation by using a Hensley hitch has been repeatedly described
by readers with a  convincing (to a qualitative researcher) ring of truth.
You'll never get a 4 x 4 pure experiment to confirm what you a looking for,
the best you might hope for is a quasi-experimental design.  Maybe this is
important enough for you to devote time to.  Not me.  There are many ways of
knowing; the scientific is just one of them.  And even that paradigm is
changing (thank God) thanks to feminism and its reconsideration of world

That said, I'd like to suggest that all the different viewpoints from all
the listees help illuminate greater understanding.  This process of back and
forth, give and take (especially on this list) is quite remarkable and
delightful, don't you agree.

And it is part of the way I came to decide to get a Hensley hitch when I get
my new Airstream.  And that doesn't mean that my choice is better than
yours!  (Even if, in my heart of hearts, I believe it is.)
