I believe the stock incandescent bulb is
#1156 although I have used the 2056 --
a hotter, brighter bulb.  It will in time
melt a hole in the plastic lens; however,
some of these fixtures have a glass (or
could it be plexiglass/acrylic) which holds up OK.  When I go higher
power, I drill
2 to 4,    3/8" holes in the wood shelf, or
whatever the fixture is fastened to, if possible, hoping to provide a
little ventilation.  Don't use the high intensity incandescent bulbs if
for no other reason than its 12 amp draw! And I do not mean
the 2056 but the one labeled high intensity. I have one over my door but
the
lens has been replaced (after melting) with clear acrylic. I recommend
replacing
this plastic "lens" with clear acrylic just for
the increased lighting. The flood light on the front quarter (or side)
of your Airstream will also distort from the heat of a 2056.
Incidentally, FWIW, I usually 
recover whatever passes as a reflector
with the bright side of aluminum foil (have
you ever seen the black - yep, black - 
reflector on your tail-lights?  At least on
some models!).  And that flood light will
be easier on your, and your friends, eyes if you replace the clear bulb
with a yellow
turn-indicator bulb.  I also have a "shade"
made of heavy aluminum and rounded to
fit the floodlight, with holes drilled in a
flared flange over the rim of the floodlight
and the original screws re-set through the 
flange; the shade comes down over half of
the floodlight, throwing the light downward.  (OK, go ahead and patent
it;
get rich! and when you buy that pet watering pan with the lipped cover
at Campng World remember me:  mine was
made from Tupperware several years 
before Camping World put them on market!).

Lighten up your life, and all of the dark corners in the world.  And,
anyhow,  just
lighten up and smell the roses!
