[a/s] door burn-through

Hello Folks,
     On some Airstream models the furnace is just left of the main
entrance.  Someone told me that if the furnace comes on while the 
door is fully opened that the exhaust will burn a hole in the door.
Now, I realize that if it is cold enough to need the furnace, it is
unlikely the door will be left wide open, but it could happen.  For 
me the danger is actually fairly serious, because I get around in a
wheelchair, and it takes me several minutes to make the transfer to
and from the Airstream.  There is also maintenence and testing that
we do in warmer weather.
     Has anyone heard of this problem, or experienced it?
