This past fall we took a 7,000 mile journey which included going over the
mountains in the southwest U.S.  The Crown Vic did an adequate job of
pulling my 29' Excella.  I say adequate because there were times on the
steepest grades when I had to slow down to about 45 mph and shift into
second gear.  This bothered me some but then I read on this list that people
pulling trailers with Suburbans have to do the same thing.

My car is a '93 Crown Vic.  The only problem I had during our long journey
was that some of the sensors (oxygen, throttle position etc.) went bad and
had to be replaced.  The mechanic at the Ford dealer where most of the work
was done said it had nothing to do with my towing the trailer.  He claims I
would have had the problem whether I was towing a trailer or not.

The hitch on my car was custom built to be just right for the trailer I was
towing.  It was done by Can-Am-RV where I purchased my Airstream.
Yes, I use what appears to be a standard equalizing hitch.  Originally I was
going to go with the Hensley but it was just too much money.  I do have two
antisway bars on the hitch and they seems to work fairly well.

The connection between the trailer and the car is made as closely to the
rear bumper as is feasible.  Apparently this is important.
