Hi Rich,

I know what the manual says... I also know many and keep hearing of many 
people replacing those chevy transmissions.... parked next to a couple in a 
campground in St Lousi last fall.  They spent an extra day getting there 
because they had to replace the tranny in a fairly new Chevy  3/4 ton 
truck.They were towing in OD. One of my best friends only towed in OD, she 
put 3 trannys into her suburban (lots of mountain driving) before a mechanic 
told her to tow in 3rd.  I don't care what the manual says.... if you have a 
Chevy and want to spare the transmission.... tow in 3rd.
 
<< I chatted with others, including mechanics about this and one of them said
 that the Chevy transmission in that truck is just a little heavier duty than
 the ones they used to put into the Chevette.(;>)~  I think they were
 exagerating, but it must have been a pretty light duty tranny.  The truck
 only had like 17K on it too.>>
