Re: [a/s] Tele Communications
Hi --
I'd like to add 2c to what Cindy and Carl mentioned in regards to ISP
access, when you're out there.
We were out for a while last summer. I have Earthlink as my ISP. While we
were out, I added on their 800 access to my account for $5/month. It gave
me 5 hours of free access, then something like 5c/minute. It worked very
well. I was able to plug the laptop into almost anything and dial out.
And by reading/composing emails off-line, along with web page editing (in
Airstream) the effective connect time was rather low.
The ultimate in staying connected is with iridium, of course. But they are
a bit expensive ($1.79/min and up to $5.00/min or so). That rate
offers you total coverage on this planet, with one phone number, and no
dead spots, except where politically prohibited, such as in Congo.
Monthly charge is $29.95, which is not too bad if you're using it as an
emergency phone. But the phone hardware is a tad expensive at $1400.
