Re: [a/s] 1959 Barth Trailer

Jay,
I just went back up and looked at it again, I went in this time, but didn't
have the digital camera with me. It is a 1959 BARTH " Continental" about a
23' or 24' I would guess. It doesn't have any built in furniture in the
front part, just room for a chair, couch and table. The kitchen is center
opposite the door. The bathroom is on the right down the hall, and the
bedroom is in the rear. It has the original gas furnace under the sink, but
the refer has been changed out to an electric only. It fits exactly where
the old one was. It has a built in window type A/C over the fridge. the guy
said it was that way originally. I didn't think they had A/C in them in
'59....hmmmm

The outside is in real good condition, only a couple of small dents on the
curbside front edge. All the rivets looked solid and not loose. There were
a couple of places inside where I think it must have leaked at one time.
The only place I could see where the floor was soft was right around the
door. The ceiling had been replaced with some white hardboard type stuff.
That would have to be replaced I think. The under belly is completely
enclosed. I'm not even sure it has a black water tank, it looks like the
toilet goes directly to a fitting outside. It has a very unique feature
for turning the TV antenna. There is a small crank on the wall by the sink
that has about a 4 " dial with the compass points on it. The crank is
connected to a shaft that goes through the wall to a gear on the outside.
It looks like you slide the vertical mast down through two holders and this
mast has another gear (like a differential in a car) that matches the one
coming through the wall. You turn the crank inside and it turns the antenna.
Quite clever.

Overall for a 59, I would say it has potential, I think it could be had for
less than $1000. It was towed there a few weeks ago, so it is at least
moveable. Oh, the front windows on each side are wrap around and very nice
looking.

I will still try to get pictures this weekend. I am going to look at a '71
A/S and will stop by this one first to take some pictures....
