[VAC] Re: towing with vintage CARs

2.77 is too HIGH for towing. I had 2.90's in my 47 Pontiac Streamlimer (Ford 
9" truck rear end) and it would "cruise" all day at 100 mph at only 2000 rpm! 
However when it came time to pull my 28' SOB (5700# loaded) the motor and 
tranny worked very hard. I put in 3.25's and my motor and tranny were much 
happier when pulling the trailer, but now  the motor has to turn at 3100 rpm 
to do 100mph. I've climbed over Loveless Pass (LovelandPass) with this set 
up,but still had to work at it. I think 3.50's or 3.70's would be better 
still for pulling the BIG hills but my motor would be really spining and 
100mph would not be attainable. (note to saftey natzis.....I don't pull my 
trailers at 100 mph , but when crossing those deserts not pulling a 
trailer....get outta my way Kamakazi approching....{{{>:o)>  )   The century 
mark was a good refference point to work with when I was playing with my 
gears. scince my '47 is also my daily driver the 3.25's pretty much let me 
have my cake and eat it too.
