[VAC] Re: Batteries under side couch
Bill,
I don't agree with changing out the propane system for all-electric and
depending just on a genset. Here's why:
It makes no sense (to me, anyway) to convert fuel to heat to
electricity, then back to heat for cooking, running a fridge, and
heating. Especially if you're going to be doing a lot of boondocking.
It's much simpler and probably cheaper to use propane where you need
heating.
Again, "It Depends": if you're almost always connected to shore power
with only occassional forays into the boonies, your scheme might be
practical. If you do a fair amount of boondocking, you'll find that
you'll be putting a LOT of runtime on the genset, using quite a bit of
fuel and wearing out your genset much more quickly. As I said before,
most AE setups, of which you could count our trailers when boondocking,
use a genset as a backup for the solar and/or wind power sources.
Also, I'd be VERY careful about using any "sound deadening chamber"
around a genset, they generate a lot of heat while making electricity,
and it MUST be able to dissapate or you'll cook your unit.
