[VAC] Re: found one for you

Hey Dave,

I've heard the 9 segment rear end called many things, but never a
"Beaver Tail". I've heard it called a Whale tail, and a Dutchman's Cap.
The 9 segment rear end was only made in Calif, from late 54 until 57,
then, it and the 13 segment front ends were changed over to something
"less costly", in terms of rivets and labor. Again, to fewer segments ,
rivets and labor. 30's, 40's, and early 50's were 13 segments, and some
9 as above. In 1958, they cut back to 7 segments, and in 1965 they cut
back to 5 segments, and in 1969, they widened the 5 segments. The
newer ones have even cut back more, but I don't keep up with the
heavyweights. If you got a copy of the end of summer 2000 Vintage
Advantage, Vol 7, Issue #4, Bud Cooper's attributes survey shows the
differences in windows, segments, wheel cutouts, and body shapes. It is
a good primer. Thank's Bud, for all you do. That same VA, has the
article about installing the Air Cond, under the couch , in a Bambi.
