[VAC] HydroFlame furnace removal

Hi
I am trying to remove/cleanout the HydroFlame furnace
in my '69 Caravel; seems to have lots of rust in the
combustion chamber.  I can't figure out how to remove
the exhaust pipe -- should it just slip apart or
what's the secret?
I figure the rust is mostly due to water coming into
the furnace thru the exhaust pipe; I built a small
cover over the outside exhaust opening and that seems
to have eliminated the occasional leakage onto the
kitchen floor.  Any thoughts on this?
