Dan,

You are about to unleash a torrent. Silicone is by far the worst 
"sealant" possible to use on the skin of an Airstream. Airstream has 
always used Vulkem. The difference is Vulkem is a polyurethane based 
product.
Silicone, while appearing to stick will allow moisture behind it as it 
will not adhere to the aluminum. You will soon hear tales of whoa by 
those that have spent countless hours taking silicone off. My self among 
them.
