 This is not a good idea- the univolt design depends on the battery for proper 
operatio,. You can but a large capacitor (IIRC, you need a 50,000 mfd, 20 
volt capacitor) in place of the battery.
 At one time a company made an add on which would shut the univolt off when 
the battery was charged, but I have not been able to find them lately.

 Another option is to install "hydrocaps" on the battery- these replace the 
battery cell caps ans keep the battery from going dry (these are expensive, 
though).

 Yest another option would be to hook the univolt up to a timer when parked, 
so that it only runs a couple of hours a day, which is probably what I would 
do.
