[A/S] Replacing converter/charger, Uni-volt vents, AC power light, etc.



Thanks all for your responses.  As usual this message board is a 
great source of information.  Just a few more questions:

I assume that most of you removed the old plastic container for the 
Uni-volt and I was wondering how you covered the vents thru the wall 
and floor.

My plan for the front wall is to removed the exterior vent hood, pop 
rivit some aluminimum over the slot opening, seal with parbond and 
then replace the hood so the patch will not be visible.  Then from 
inside I will pack the opening with some sort of insulation and maybe 
install an aluminum patch, but maybe not since this won't be visible 
with the front sofa in the way.

The vent thru the floor I planned to fill with some styrofoam 
insulation from inside, leaving the screen thru the belly in place, 
and screw a scrap piece of plywood to the floor to cover the 
opening.  I want to leave this vent thru the floor available for 
future use.

My plan for the floor vent is that if possible I will install the new 
converter off to one side up front, leaving space for some extra 
battery boxes should we start doing some boondocking.  These would be 
the sealed type of box that has a vent hose running from it, which 
would then be connected to the old floor vent.

Oliver, thanks for explaining the AC power light since I want to get 
that working again.  I know I read an explanation on this once before 
but I couldn't get the light to come on when testing with a jumper 
wire.

I had connected my jumper to the gray wire in the 12 volt fuse panel, 
listed in the service manual as being the signal wire to that AC 
power light, and tried connecting the other end to anything metal up 
front which I assumed was grounded.  No luck, although I am willing 
to try again.

Any suggestions are helpful, and I assume you hooked up that ground 
wire at the old Uni-volt location and not by the panel.  FYI, I 
understand the relay and exactly what you did.  Might be $5.00 in 
parts, so well worth the effort.
