[A/S] Cracked Battery Box

When checking my batteries today I found a crack in the battery box. 
It's not that big, but it is in the back left corner and looks like the 
crack might expand - it is in a weight bearing location.

Someone suggested using a fiberglass repair kit. Does this sound like 
the right approach. Should I apply a patch on the inside or outside or 
both? Anyone have an easier suggestion?

This is in a 96 Classic.
