The factory did indeed install a small generator in one of the side 
compartments of some airstreams but if I remember correctly, they were only 
about 1,500 or 2,000 watt units that would not run the AC, only lights.  
Much goes into fabricating a box compartment that will be sound resistant as 
well was prevent fumes from entering the trailer.  Some individuals have 
installed dual Honda EU2000i generators on the tongue by moving the propane 
tanks forward and encasing the power jack inside the propane tank cover with 
the tanks.  Others have fabricated aluminum or stainless steel boxes and 
mounted them along with the generator behind the tanks.  I would say the 
Honda 2000 end to end just might fit but why bother?  Each weighs around 48 
lbs. and the parallel kit runs around $249.00.  They are easy to handle and 
each may be found for around $900.

I just received my Yamaha EF30i boost 3,000 watt generator Thursday 
afternoon and got a chance to try it out this weekend while turkey hunting.  
Shipping weight is 130 lbs. and then weighs around 151 lbs. with oil and 3.4 
gal. of gas.  It took 2 of us to pick it up and put it into the truck but I 
think I made the wise choice.  It runs my Penguin 15,000 BTU AC without 
going into "boost" mode from the accompanied 12 v. battery even when lights 
and Intellipower are running.  I also have a Hughes Autoformer in line in 
one of the compartment but do not know if that has an effect or not.  I 
couldn't be happier with its performance.  I'm sure the Hondas would work 
fine also and would be easier to move around.
