Robert,

It sounds to me like your A/C has one or more bad starting capacitors. They 
often leak (nasty stuff)
when they fail. Without the extra punch from the capacitors to start the 
compressor it will overload
the 20 amp breaker. The answer to the problem is NOT a 30 amp breaker, 20 is 
the proper size.
