Yep, the first socket that broke was the one in the front left corner 
and when I took down the light fixture the vinyl foam was scorched. 

I have also had a couple of the slider thingys break.

These lights were not well thought out. Scorching, socket plungers 
that break, and sliders that break. Pretty sad.

Yep, I've got that problem too. I called Airstream and there current 
solution is to replace the whole inside shell piece. Every segment of 
mine is partially loose, so their solution would mean a lot of 
de/reconstruction. 

I'm curious though, what did you use that only cost $8.00?

Back to my original question....has anyone had any of these light 
sockets fail? Is there a neat fix short of replaceing the whole 
socket by cutting the wires and splicing on a new socket?
